So, as we were gatherin’ all the loot from the Lizardfolk, Noraa tries to palm one of the gold coins right in front of us! Storn and I saw her, though, and when we confronted her, she lied right to our faces – as if we hadn’t just watched her do it! No wonder she’s a pariah in her own community.
Obviously she is not to be trusted. I’ll be talkin’ to Morgan about her as soon as we see him again.
Het and Trodor decided they should go out and guard the women and children on the shore, since there was no tellin’ if other Lizardfolk might be in the area. Certainly this cave looks like it serves as the lair for far more then the handful we have seen so far. When they got out there, they ran into Eldron (one of the other two new members of the guild I mentioned). Turns out, he missed the opening ceremonies at the Three Hills because he was passed out and couldn’t be woken up.
Fantastic. Another alcoholic Dwarf. What the hell are the odds of that?
While waitin’ for Eldron to work his way into the cave, Dolgun ate the two live crawdads we found in the Lizardmen’s net bag. Personally, I wouldn’t eat anything that came out of the lake, but Dolgun didn’t seem to be effected at all! In the mean time, Carenthal’s teeth were chatterin’ so loud, we all thought some weird monster was comin’ up through the mud. We figured the best way to keep warm would be to move on forward and find the boys.
Getting’ through the next tunnel was horrible. We finally ended up tying a rope guideline to help us. On the other side were six more Lizardfolk and their leader (called himself Sssskaaaaaarl). He had one of the boys in his arms with a knife to his throat and looked like he meant to kill him. Skarl started ranting about how it should be perfectly acceptable to take the two small boys, since they “caught them fairly” and “they are small and won’t be missed.”
Nice.
Dolgun, Noraa, and Storn yelled all over each other, confusin’ the issue and gettin’ the Lizardfolk all agitated. In fact, I’m pretty sure Storn didn’t care if the boy got killed, as long as he got to murder more Lizardfolk. Luckily for the boys, I finally got a word in edgewise and was able to negotiate the release of the boys for the low low price of my hat, my mirror, and 2 sheep (that I believe Het stole).
Then Skarl started spillin’ his guys about how he saw Kullen and another Human with “a pointy hat” dumping bodies in the lake near here. Dolgun seemed interested in this piece of information and started lookin’ from my hat back to me. I think I got the subject changed in time, before people connected all the dots, but I’ll have to keep an eye out for awhile.
Skarl also spewed a lot of nonsense about broken bargains with the other Humans and how their new leader, a Black Dragon if that can be believed, would help them to destroy all the Humans.
This day just keeps getting’ better and better.
We got the women and all the children back to town and the Calishites threw us a great party. They also rewarded us with a pair of finely crafted, curved short swords. I think Eldron is carrying one now as well as Noraa. Can’t imagine why we gave one to her, though. I also got an additional reward from lovely Roya. Of course, what with her crazy Calishite customs it’s unlikely I’ll be seeing her again, it was an enjoyable evening.

Morgan and just about all the senior members of the guild are out today and even Jasper doesn’t know where. I guess I’ll have to wait to tell Morgan about our thieving comrade. The two brothers were arguin’ in the common room about what was more likely to have treasure – the Stirgenest or the Whispering Cairn. I put in my two coppers and told them the Stirgenest had been empty for years, but the Whispering Cairn might not have been fully explored. I think they headed out to look around later that day.
We ran errands. We went to the garrison and got some information, gave some information, and dropped off a package. Then we went into town and sold off our loot. Dolgun was able to get more than 1,000 gold for the Dragon scales we found. And Chezabet confirmed that the scales were shed by a Black Dragon – one that was in all probability friendly with the Lizardfolk.
I got a readin’. I know it’s all an act, but every once in a while, Chezabet seems to actually have a gift. Besides, I now had more gold in my possession than I have even had! She told me I would meet a fisherman with a dog who would want to take me to a land of fire. She warned me not to go with him or I would die.
That was five gold well spent. Sigh.
On the way out of the Emporium, we almost got attacked by picketers complainin’ about the mine owners. I got to watch Noraa and her father air their dirty laundry. After seeing the way she treats her father, I understand why the Calishites conduct “honor killins.”
Other notes of interest are that there are bounties out on Nergal’s Bandits (25gp/head) and Lizadfolk (30gp/necklace). That means Lieutenant Skunt cheated us out of 5 gp each on those necklaces. Since we don’t want to get on the garrison’s bad side, we just chalked it up to being a delivery charge and let it go.
Just goes to show you, everyone’s a thief in Diamond Lake.
We spent a little gold getting’ some information and got a decent idea of where the Whispering Cairn is. I talked to a couple of local teenagers and convinced Igor Bersk to lead us there in the mornin’ (for another 2 gold and a pass to the Veiled Cooridor).
Sounds like we’re all agreed to go there in the mornin’ in the hopes of beatin’ the adventurers from Waterdeep to the punch.
